NOGALES, Ariz. -- A Chandler man was arrested Monday for attempting to smuggle 2.5 pounds of heroin through the Port of Nogales, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

CBP officers at the Morley pedestrian crossing selected Saul Beltran, 22, for further questioning as he attempted to enter the United States.

Officers said they found three packages of heroin wrapped around Beltran's stomach and groin.

The drugs, worth nearly $36,000, were processed for seizure.

Beltran was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
