Stroller Skating class helps moms stay cool and fitPosted: Updated:
PEORIA -- There's a new class in town teaching moms some skills on the ice and helping them stay fit at the same time! (Not to mention cool!)
AZ Ice Peoria is offering a class for moms to learn how to skate while strolling on the ice with their child in a stroller.
"My vision for this class was, in Arizona, when it's so hot, it's a great place to exercise in the summer," says skating instructor Bridget Kaus. "Basically they get a 15 minute lesson of instruction. We focus on safety and having fun. After their class they get to do a free skate for an hour with their child."
Bridget says when she moved from California to Arizona and experienced our triple digit temps, she wasn't sure where to go to exercise. "I was like, where do you exercise here unless you get up at the crack of dawn?" she laughs.
Safety always come first in the class. "If you feel like you're falling down, let go of the stroller and grab your knees," advises Bridget. "We call it knees and freeze. You don't take the stroller down with you."
This new class starts on June 4 at 11:45 a.m., and runs for nine weeks. Just bring one child in a stroller and participate in a weekly, 15-minute adults group ice skating lessons followed by one hour of free stroller-skating time. Moms wear ice skates while the child remains in shoes in his or her stroller.
AZ Ice Peoria is located at 15829 N. 83rd Ave. To sign up for the class call 623-773-7137 or visit www.peoriaaz.gov/recreation
