SUN CITY, Ariz. -- A Sun City couple and their cat are lucky to be alive after a fire that started in a car spread to their home Thursday morning.

It happened at about 1:30 a.m. in the neighborhood of 107th and Peoria avenues.

The woman heard two loud pops.

"It sounded like a bird hit the window," Patricia Hatcher-Depottey told 3TV's Javier Soto. "The front window was all red from the flames."

When she looked outside, Hatcher-Depottey saw flames devouring two cars.

Video from the scene showed the burnt-out shells of those vehicles in the driveway.

As flames made their way toward the house, the woman woke her husband and went in search of their 23-year-old cat.

The frightened cat was frozen in the kitchen. She grabbed the animal and ran outside to safety.

No injuries were reported, but the couple cannot return home. A chain-link fence now surrounded the board-up home.

Investigators do not know what sparked the fire.
