SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. -- Department of Public Safety investigators are trying to determine if impairment was a factor that put a woman in the hospital Wednesday morning.

It happened at Loop 303 (Bob Stump Memorial Parkway) and El Mirage Road in the northwest part of town.

According to DPS, the woman was behind the wheel of a minivan, driving north on El Mirage Road. She apparently drove through a stop sign and clipped a semi that was eastbound on Loop 303.

Video from the scene showed quite a bit of damage to the front of the minivan. The damage to the tanker was less obvious. A repair crew was still working to fix the back axle at 6 a.m., hours after the wreck.

The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. She is expected to recover.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.
