DOUGLAS, Ariz. – A 44-year-old Mexican national was arrested Friday for attempting to smuggle nearly 221 pounds of marijuana through the Port of Douglas.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred Julian Obeso-Acosta of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico for a more thorough search of his van. During the search officers found 157 packages of marijuana concealed within the headliner and several other locations within the vehicle. The marijuana’s estimated value exceeded $110K.

Friday’s seizure followed three other marijuana seizures earlier last week totaling 680 pounds and valued at an estimated $339,700.

Obeso was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. The drugs and vehicle were seized.
