PHOENIX -- 3TV and Cancer Treatment Centers of America have partnered to provide folks with a free cancer screening event this morning until 11 a.m.

3TV's Heidi Goitia spent the morning at Desert Ridge Marketplace.

"It's true that people who are fair, who have skin that burns easily, are at highest risk," Dr. Walter Quan of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America said on "Melanoma Monday." "But you can have a darker complexion and still be at risk."

He advises regular skin cancer checks, and mentions the "A,B,C,D, E Rule."

A. Asymmetry - Look for moles that are asymmetrical, and one half is different than the other half.

B. Border Irregularity - The edges are notched, uneven, or blurred.

C. Color - The color is uneven. Shades of brown, tan, and black are present.

D. Diameter - Diameter is greater than 6 millimeters.

E. Enlarged - Look for anything enlarged or elevated.

Nearly 200 people were screened during the event.

If you were unable to make it to Desert Ridge Marketplace, consider scheduling an appointment with Allergy & Dermatology Specialists, the team that handled screening for those at the event. For more information, call 602-277-7686.
