MESA, Ariz. – No one was injured after a small school bus caught fire at Country Club Drive and Brown Road Thursday morning.

It appears that the fire started in the engine compartment and spread through the bus, according to Capt. Forrest Smith with the Mesa Fire and Medical Department.

Smith said the driver saw smoke coming from the communications radio and quickly pulled over.

The driver, an assistant and four children got safely off the bus.

The children are junior high students from Mesa Public Schools. Another bus was called in to take the students to school.

School officials and Mesa police also responded to the scene.
