SURPRISE, Ariz -- Matt Florman has been running from 3 On Your Side for nearly a year and even after his recent conviction, he still didn't want anything to do with our cameras.

Just minutes earlier, Florman was inside a Surprise courtroom pleading guilty to contracting violations.

"You are pleading guilty to one charge of contracting without a license and the charge of unlicensed advertising is being dismissed," the judge said. "You understand that?"

Florman replied, "Yes sir."

The contractor came on 3 On Your Side's radar a year ago when he and his business, Sound Creations, were hired by homeowner Denis Chassot.

"That’s supposed to be a speaker. I have a speaker cover for now until I can get the rest of the system in," Chassot explained as he pointed at a hole in his ceiling.

The homeowner hired Florman after seeing an advertisement on Angie's List. He said Florman was supposed to install an in-house vacuum system along with security cameras and even a surround sound system.

Since the ad claimed Florman was licensed, Chassot handed over $3,000. However, Florman never finished the job.

As a result, the Arizona Registrar of Contractors hauled Florman into a Surprise court on contracting violations, where he struck a deal and pleaded guilty.

While Florman didn't want to talk about his plea deal following the court hearing, Chassot and his wife, Barbara, sure did.

“We thought we were going to go all the way to through to the trial. That’s why we were here," Chassot said. "We had all our ducks in a row and we were prepared to go all the way with it, and yeah, it did surprise us."

Chassot will be repaid $2,400 out of the $3,000 he gave Florman, which is what the judge ordered in this case. Chassot says he's fine with that restitution and says he appreciates 3 On Your Side's persistence in the matter.

"We’re really excited about being done with this. Now we can just move on," he said
