SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A Scottsdale man was seriously injured while skateboarding early Tuesday morning.

Police said the 20-year-old was skateboarding southbound in the crosswalk at the intersection of Scottsdale and Thomas roads at approximately 12:35 a.m. The traffic signal was red for southbound traffic.

The man was struck by a 2001 Cadillac traveling through the eastbound green traffic signal.

The skateboarder was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark said impairment and speed do not appear to be factors on the part of the 84-year-old male driver.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours.
