PHOENIX -- Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that ripped through a vacant apartment complex in south Phoenix on Friday.

Capt. Ruben Saavedra said there was heavy fire and smoke when firefighters arrived at the single-story complex about 6 p.m.

Saavedra said firefighters could not immediately find the nearest fire hydrant because it was blocked by a parked vehicle, but the flames were extinguished within 10 minutes after multiple fire units attacked the blaze from different locations.

No injuries were reported.
