MESA, Ariz. -- Drivers in Mesa will have to plan ahead to avoid traffic created by construction for the new light rail track.

Valley Metro is in the process of building a 3.1-mile extension to the existing light rail service down Main Street in Mesa. Crews will close the north- and south-bound Mesa Drive at Main Street from 9 a.m. on Friday, May 2, to 6 a.m. Monday, May 5, as they install rails.

Good Morning Arizona's Jill Galus reported from Mesa on the closure.
