Avondale, Ariz. -- Police arrested a man accused of physically and sexually assaulting his wife and threatening to kill her.
Ansar Yadmeen Muhammad, 44, is facing charges of aggravated assault, sexual assault and threatening with intimidation.
According to a court document, Muhammad and his wife were fighting in the early morning hours on Saturday at the couple's home near McDowell Road and Avondale Blvd. The fight was about her having an affair.
Police said Muhammad put his wife in a car and drove her to a nearby store where he parked behind a building. She tried to get away but Muhammad pulled her back in the vehicle where he beat and choked her.
Muhammad told his wife he had the right to kill her because of his "Islamic belief."
He then drove her back to their home and told her he was going to throw her in the neighborhood lake because she did not know how to swim.
Muhammad then ordered his wife to get on the floor and pray before he sexually assaulted her.
The victim got away when Muhammad fell asleep. She ran to a neighbor's house to call police.
She had injuries to her face, neck, back, chest and legs.
The couple's three children were home during the incident.
