PHOENIX (AP) -- People in Arizona who died from injuries suffered on the job were remembered at a memorial service on Monday.

State lawmakers, family members and other supporters will gathered Monday morning near the State Capitol as part of National Workers Memorial Day.

The 10 a.m. ceremony honored workers who were killed or suffered an illness while working.

Participants also called for the creation of safe jobs and workplaces.

According to a 2012 Bureau of Labor Statistics report, 37 workers were killed in Arizona and more than 54,000 others were hurt while at work.

The event included remarks from injured workers. State representatives Debbie McCune Davis and Jonathan Larkin were also in attendance.
