Police, FBI investigate officer-involved shooting on reservation

SALT RIVER PIMA-MARICOPA INDIAN COMMUNITY, Ariz. -- Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on the Salt River Indian reservation.

It occurred Saturday near Stapley Drive and Oak Street.

Salt River police say they were contacting a person believed to be wanted on a warrant when he led police on a foot pursuit.

A scuffle ensueD and ended in gunfire, according to police spokesman Det. Vicente Cendejas.

Police have not commented on injuries or who fired shots.

"Salt River Police Department is taking this as an officer-involved shooting," Cendejas said. "This is still an ongoing investigation that's turned over to the FBI."
