PHOENIX -- Demolition has begun on the Interstate 10 bridges crossing Perryville Road in Goodyear, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The bridges will be cleared over the next few days to make way for the construction of longer bridges over Perryville Road, ADOT said in a statement.

Traffic on the I-10 has switched to detour routes along the future I-10/State Route 303 interchange.

Perryville Road will be closed between McDowell Road and Van Buren Street to accommodate the construction and detour routes, according to ADOT. Drivers can use Citrus Road and Jackrabbit Trail for alternate north-south roads.

According to ADOT, the $18.8 million interchange project will be finished in the fall.
