Jose Maria-Macias By Jennifer Thomas
PHOENIX -- An Arizona Department of Corrections officer was arrested on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor.
Jose Maria-Macias, 23, was arrested Thursday. He faces five counts of sexual conduct with a minor, three counts of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of sexual abuse.
Phoenix police were contacted after sexually explicit text messages were found on a 15-year-old girl's phone, according to Sgt. Trent Crump.
Crump said investigators spoke with the victim and she disclosed that the incidents began earlier this month with an exchange of graphic text messages. Police said Maria-Macias engaged in sexual conduct with the teen.
According to court documents, they exchanged sexual photos and police said they were able to identify Maria-Macias due to some "unique and colorful tattoos."
Detectives searched the suspect's home, vehicle and phone and found evidence supporting the allegations, according to Crump.
He was arrested while at work.
Maria-Macias began working at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis in February. He resigned after his arrest.
