A leopard caused panic in the city of Chandrapur on Monday when it sprung from the roof of a house and charged at rescue workers.

Officials given the job of trying to capture the animal scattered after it burst from the roof, but one man unable to outrun the big cat felt its teeth sink into his backside.

He quickly jumped over a wall and out of the animal's way.

The leopard sought refuge in the bathroom of a home, his eyes trained on the camera filming him, before being captured after a four hour stand-off.

Leopards are protected in India, though there have been more reports of them straying into cities and villages to search for food as their habitats shrink.
