Man accused of assaulting police officer outside Prescott barPosted: Updated:
PRESCOTT, Ariz. – A Prescott man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer early Sunday morning.
Prescott police Lt. Ken Morley said two foot patrol officers saw Jacob D. Schmid, 27, and another man fighting in front of a bar. The officers contacted them and the second man stopped fighting immediately, but Schmid continued to act aggressively toward the other man and the police officers.
Schmid refused to obey the officers' commands and was placed under arrest. Morley said Schmid began to fight with the officers and swung his fists at them several times, punching one of them in the jaw. The officer also received an injury to his elbow as they took Schmid to the ground.
Schmid was eventually subdued and secured in restraints.
Witnesses told police that Schmid had been harassing several people inside the bar prior to the fight. Schmid allegedly made offensive and sexually suggestive comments to a 21-year-old woman. She told police that the other man involved in the fight was her friend who was trying to get Schmid to stop harassing her.
The officer did not receive any significant injuries and was treated at the scene.
Schmid was booked into Yavapai County Jail for felony aggravated assault against a police officer and disorderly conduct.
