PHOENIX -- Police have arrested two brothers in the fatal shooting of an off-duty security guard at a Phoenix bar last month.
Alex Ray Flores, 21, was arrested Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder, burglary, endangerment and misconduct involving weapons.
Police said Flores and his 22-year-old brother were drinking at Mi Ranchito near 32nd Street and Thomas Road when they attempted to leave with a bottle of beer when the bar closed.
Sgt. Steve Martos said Jesus Rafael Lozano-Vidal, 33, was not working that night but was at the bar and helped clear out the patrons. He noticed the beer and confronted the men. They got into a fight and Lozano-Vidal was shot in the stomach. He later died at a hospital.
The two brothers fled the scene on foot.
Police said Alex Flores was the shooter and that he also shot his brother during the fight. Max Flores sustained an injury to his arm.
Max Flores faces a murder charge based on the felony murder rule, which stipulates that an individual can be charged with murder if someone is killed while they're committing a felony.
