PHOENIX -- Arson investigators are trying to determine if fires at a total of three model apartments are connected.

Fires gutted model units at two separate apartment complexes late Thursday night.

One was reported at about 10:15 p.m. at the Banyantree Apartments on 28th and Larkspur drives, north of Cactus Road.

That fire started on the second floor and was spreading up to the third when firefighters arrived on the scene. Crews were able to stop the flames.

The unit below the model where the fire started sustained some water damage.

The second fire was less than a mile away, near 25th Avenue and Cactus Road.

Firefighters evacuated several residents as a precaution.

This fire gutted a first-floor model unit and spread up to the second floor.

Nobody was injured in either fire.

The first of the three model apartment fires happened Tuesday at Presido North in the neighborhood of 11th Avenue and Bell Road.

Arson investigators call all three fires suspicious, but they are not sure how any of them started.

Those investigators are trying to determine if somebody deliberately set the three fires in the model units and if the incidents are related.

If you have information about any of these fires, please call the Phoenix Fire Department's Arson Hotline at 602-262-7766.
