SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A wanted man was taken to a hospital after a standoff with authorities at a Surprise apartment.

The U.S. Marshals Service Violent Offender Task Force has been investigating the whereabouts of 21-year-old Samson Scott Messier and tracked him down to the apartment near Bell Road and Grand Avenue.

Messier was wanted on kidnapping, home invasion and armed robbery charges.

He allegedly had a gun when authorities showed up at the apartment to arrest him and barricaded himself inside.

U.S. Marshals and Surprise police threw several gas grenades into the apartment and used robots to peek inside.

They eventually stormed the apartment and found Messier unconscious behind a bed.

The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed that the man was not shot but did not say why he was unconscious.

He was taken to a hospital and will later be booked into jail.
