PHOENIX -- The Arizona Department of Public Safety is teaming up with Special Olympics Arizona to raise some money for a good cause.

The DPS family is inviting the public to attend the BBQ Thursday that raises funds for Special Olympics Arizona and its inspiring athletes.

"Every year, the Department of Public Safety, along with many other law enforcement agencies holds fundraisers to benefit Special Olympics Arizona," says DPS Capt. Daniel Golden. "This is an example of the many events that we do, and this is one of our big ones, right here."

In addition to a great lunch, which will be catered by Honey Bears BBQ, the event will showcase some of DPS' specialty units such as the Bomb Squad, SWAT Team, Canine Unit, Motorcycle District, Haz-Mat Team and the Air Rescue Helicopter.

The event will also feature a variety of live entertainment and raffle prizes.

The DPS BBQ for Champions 2014 will be held Thursday, April 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., within the north parking lot of the DPS headquarters building. The building is located at 2102 West Encanto Blvd. in Phoenix.

The event is open to the public. Admission is $10.
