PHOENIX -- 90-degree temperatures are returning to the Valley of the Sun, but only briefly before a cooling system tracks into Arizona for the end of the work week.

With a dry westerly flow developing Tuesday afternoon, Phoenix Sky Harbor hit a high of 90 degrees, which was 5 degrees warmer than Monday.

Temperatures are expected to climb Wednesday. In Phoenix, look for a high of 93. On Thursday, little change is expected with mostly sunny skies.

By Friday, an area of low pressure tracking across Arizona from the eastern Pacific will first produce showers in the mountains. Afternoon isolated thunderstorms are possible. In the Valley, cloud cover will increase, but rain and thunderstorm chances are very slim. Otherwise, look for a drop in afternoon temperatures. This system should be out of Arizona by late Saturday night.

For Friday, Phoenix should cool down to a high of 86, with a high of 88 Saturday.

By Easter Sunday, temperatures in the Valley will spike back up to the low 90s, with the upper 90s on tap for Monday under mostly sunny skies.
