FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- The city of Flagstaff is preparing to implement fire restrictions following an unusually dry winter that has contributed to wildfires in the area.

The city will ban all fire pits and other open flame devices starting Friday morning. Charcoal grills and other devices that can be switched on and off will be allowed.

The restrictions cover the city's urban trail system, disc golf courses and city parks.

Police say they're also expanding patrols of areas where people are known to camp.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that forest and county officials also are considering fire restrictions.
