NOGALES, Ariz. -- A Mexican man was arrested Wednesday at the Port of Nogales for attempting to smuggle more than 8,000 pounds of marijuana into the United States.
A dog alerted officers to the marijuana which was inside a shipment of bell peppers.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the commercial facility referred a 30-year-old man from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico for additional inspection of a tractor-trailer he was driving. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the trailer, officers removed and seized 298 bales of marijuana worth more than $4 million.
The drugs and truck were processed for seizure. The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
