PD: Phoenix man said God told him to stab his motherPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- An 18-year-old Phoenix man accused of stabbing his mother multiple times with a kitchen knife said God told him to do it, according to court documents.
Cory Kit Montgomery was arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder and resisting arrest. He is being held on $500,000 bond.
Officers responding to a stabbing call near McDowell Road and 32nd Street Tuesday night found Montgomery being chased by witnesses. Montgomery then ran from the officers, who chased him down and detained him.
Police said they found a kitchen knife in a parking lot near where the stabbing occurred.
Montgomery's mother had multiple stab wounds and told the officers that her son had stabbed her, according to a police report. She was transported to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Witnesses reported hearing the victim scream that she loved her son and saw Montgomery stab her multiple times. Another witness reported that he saw Montgomery standing over the victim and punching her.
Montgomery told police that he stabbed his mother nine times and that God had told him to do it, according to court records.
Montgomery has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 18.
