FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- A Coconino County detention officer was arrested for allegedly asking a female inmate to expose herself.

Pete C. Gomez, 50, has been employed at the Coconino County Detention Facility for five years.

According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, on Tuesday an adult female inmate told a staff member at the jail that Gomez was engaging in inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature with her.

The sheriff's office initiated an internal affairs investigation and requested that the Flagstaff Police Department conduct a criminal investigation.

Police were told that there was an allegation that Gomez had solicited an inmate to expose herself to him, according to Sgt. Cory Runge.

As a result of the investigation, police detectives arrested Gomez for one count of unlawful sexual conduct in a correctional facility.

Gomez is on administrative leave as both investigations continue.
