PHOENIX -- Phoenix police say one man is dead and three others injured after a shooting between guests attending neighboring house parties.

Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos says officers responded around 2 a.m. Saturday to a call about shots fired on West Palm Lane near 54th Avenue.

Martos says guests from two parties taking place across the street from each other got into a physical altercation.

Martos says the fight led to one person getting a handgun and firing it several times at people outside a home.

"Nobody wanted to come outside," neighbor Vanessa Pacheco said. "We knew it was something ... big. All the gunshots started going off and we just got all scared."

Authorities say a victim who left to get medical attention became involved in a vehicle collision and died from injuries suffered in the shooting. He has been identified as 25-year-old Marcus Hernandez.

Police say a 33-year-old man is in critical condition, and a 29-year-old man and 17-year-old boy are in stable condition.

According to Martos, detectives have no description of a possible suspect.

Neighbors believe two rival gangs might have been involved.

Pacheco said she is concerned for her kids and others in the neighborhood.
