PHOENIX -- Weekend temperatures are going to stay pretty much below average around the state, with a few isolated showers in Northern Arizona.

However, by the middle of next week, a strong ridge of high pressure will build into the desert southwest allowing temperatures to soar.

By Tuesday, we will see the first 90-degree highs of the year in Phoenix. By Wednesday and Thursday, we’re looking at highs in the mid 90s, which is nearly 15 degrees above the norm.

There is a chance that a few desert locations may get to 100, but we’re not forecasting that for the Valley yet.

The average first 90-degree reading occurs April 2, so we’re in the ballpark, if not a little behind pace this year. The average first 100-degree day is May 12th.
