PHOENIX -- A man is in extremely critical condition after falling from a downtown Phoenix building Wednesday afternoon, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

It occurred near Second Avenue and Jackson Street.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra said the man apparently fell four stories, about 50 feet.

Firefighters responded shortly after 3 p.m. and found the adult man lying in a breezeway, Saavedra said.

He was transported to a local trauma center.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said it appeared to be an accident.
