Fiesta Bowl names new chairman of the boardPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – The Fiesta Bowl organization announced Tuesday that Andy McCain has been elected the 2014-2015 chairman of the board.
The organization operates the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl and more than 40 related statewide events.
"It is an honor to be this year's Chairman of the Fiesta Bowl," McCain said in a news release. "I look forward to continuing the legacy started by our founders more than 40 years ago by hosting great games and events with unmatched hospitality, promoting Arizona and giving back to the community."
McCain joined the Fiesta Bowl organization as a board member in 2007.
"Andy has been an integral part of the Fiesta Bowl for many years," said Fiesta Bowl Interim Executive Director Duane Woods. "His tremendous leadership and business experience will play a vital role in guiding the organization's transition into the first year of the College Football Playoff."
He is the son of Sen. John McCain and the chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Hensley Beverage Company.
In addition to his involvement with the Fiesta Bowl, McCain is a member on the Arizona Super Bowl XLIX Host Committee and is a past director and chairman of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce.
The Fiesta Bowl organization is looking for a replacement for CEO Robert Shelton, who stepped down in January. He took over in 2011 after John Junker was accused of participating in a scheme in which bowl employees made illegal campaign contributions to politicians and were reimbursed by the nonprofit bowl.
In March, Junker was sentenced to eight months in federal prison after pleading guilty to a conspiracy charge.
