Marijuana found in tires of 2 vehicles at Douglas port

DOUGLAS, Ariz. – Two Mexican nationals were arrested for attempting to smuggle marijuana in the tires of their vehicles.

On Friday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers selected an SUV for inspection and found more than 213 pounds of marijuana concealed within all five of the vehicle's tires.

The drugs had an estimated value of $106,500.

The 31-year-old male driver was arrested.

On Sunday, a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs hidden in the tires of a pickup truck driven by a 48-year-old man.

Officers found nearly 98 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $49,000.

Both men were arrested and referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. The marijuana and vehicles were seized.
