ANTHEM, Ariz. -- The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a threat that targeted an Anthem school and Circle K store.

A Circle K clerk called the sheriff's office about 2 a.m. Friday saying a threat was called into his store on Daisy Mountain Drive near Interstate 17.

The caller reportedly told the clerk he had placed a package at a gas pump and said, "Remember Columbine, that will happen at the school near your store."

The sheriff's office said deputies found no substantiated threat at local schools or the Circle K, but additional deputies were placed in the area and surrounding schools were notified.

They are still investigating where the threat originated.

A spokeswoman with the Deer Valley Unified School District said Boulder Creek High School, the school nearest to the Circle K, was notified of the threat by deputies Friday morning but told to proceed with classes as normal.

After a Facebook message was posted about the threat and Anthem Preparatory Academy went on lockdown, Deer Valley Unified School District emailed information confirmed by the sheriff's office to all parents in the district as phone lines were down, the spokeswoman said.

This is the Deer Valley Unified School District, with some important safety information we would like to share with you.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office received a call early this morning referencing a threat toward an Anthem business and school. The Sheriff’s Office took the threat seriously, launched a search of the business and schools and found the threat to be unsubstantiated. Surrounding schools have been notified and an investigation continues into the origination of the threat.

All schools are safe and daily instruction remains a priority within the classroom. Please take note that all district and school phone lines are currently down and we are working on getting the lines back up as soon as possible.
