Little girl with big voice helps raise awareness about child sex traffickingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Local children and teen performers are donating their time and talents to put on an amazing show and help increase awareness about sex trafficking of kids.
Starbright Foundation, Inc. is a 501c3 no-profit dedicated to rescuing children from severe abuse and sex trafficking.
Sex trafficking of young children is an extremely lucrative crime in Arizona and around the globe. To put it in perspective, annually human trafficking brings in more money than the NFL, NBA and MLB combined.
"[Sex] trafficking just surpassed gun violence as the second-largest organized crime in the world," Laurie Regnier of Starbright Foundation said. "Phoenix is the second-largest hub next to Las Vegas."
Starbright is dedicated to helping children by offering a safe environment where children can live and being the healing process from all types of horrific exploitation.
Brianna Collicio, 7, is one of the performers in the show. A singer from New York, Brianna has cystic fibrosis, which means she has extremely limited lung capacity. Hearing her sing, however, you'd never know it. Brianna is the junior ambassador for the Starbright Foundation.
3TV April Warnecke talked to Brianna and Regnier about an event going on this weekend.
The Rising Star Talent Show, which is all about children helping children, is March 29 at Chandler Center for the Arts. Doors open at 5 p.m. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $15.
