PHOENIX -- A Phoenix apartment was destroyed after it caught fire early Saturday morning.

About 1 a.m., Phoenix firefighters responded to a fire at a two-story apartment complex near 18th Street and Broadway Road.

Firefighters observed smoke coming from the first floor.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra said the firefighters were familiar with the complex from previous calls, and they quickly found and extinguished the flames before they spread to other units.

One person was evaluated for smoke inhalation at the scene but did not want to be taken to the hospital, Saavedra said.
