SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A 71-year-old man has died after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Scottsdale.

Police spokesman Officer David Pubins said about 5:30 p.m. Friday, the bicyclist was struck by a four-door sedan which was northbound on Pima Road near Dixileta Drive.

The bicyclist, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, Pubins said.

Investigators determined speed and alcohol were not factors.

No citiations were issued as the man riding the bicycle apparently moved into the way of traffic, Pubins said.

Pima Road was closed between Dixileta Drive and Dynamite Boulevard for several hours as police investigated the crash. Traffic was diverted to Hayden Road.
