PHOENIX -- A cat is recovering at the Arizona Humane Society after being burned in an apartment fire last week.

The humane society's emergency animal medical technicians transported Bella, a 4-year-old tortie, to the Second Chance Animal Hospital after receiving a call from a neighbor.

Bella had first-degree burns on her paws and a burn spot on her belly where a piece of plastic had melted on her skin. Her whiskers were singed off.

Veterinarians have been changing Bella's bandages and giving her antibiotics and pain medication.

The humane society said Bella will enter the foster program for several weeks because her owners are unable to keep her after losing everything in the fire. Once fully recovered, she will be available for adoption.

To adopt Bella, call 602-997-7585 ext. 2045.
