PHOENIX -- Police are searching for a man who robbed a Bashas' grocery store in central Phoenix while armed with a gun Thursday night.

About 9 p.m., a man walked into the store at Seventh Avenue and Osborn Road and demanded money from a cashier.

An off-duty police officer who happened to be shopping at the store put out a call on her radio, and officers arrived within about one minute.

Police shut down the grocery store and put out a reverse 911 call to nearby residents.

They also brought in K-9 units to search for the robber, who reportedly fled on foot, but have not yet located him.

He is believed to be in his 20s, and is described as having a dark complexion with spotty pigmentation on his face and hands. He was wearing a long-sleeve hoodie and jeans. He is considered armed and dangerous.
