Surveillance video released in Tempe 'upskirting' arrestPosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Police have released the surveillance video that shows a man secretly taking pictures under a woman's dress while she was shopping at Target.
Police said Target security staff observed 26-year-old Patrick Kennamer follow a woman around the Rio Salado Parkway and McClintock Drive store last week and take multiple photos of her.
It’s called "upskirting" and police said the surveillance cameras caught Kennamer taking "upskirt" pictures with his smart phone.
"You see him go up underneath almost in between her legs and take a picture," said Sergeant Michael Pooley with Tempe police.
With the popularity of smart phones, many people have a camera in their hands that can take video or still pictures. That smart phone can also be a tool that can be abused.
"I think that's pretty gross. I can't believe that there are people out there like that," said Kelly Stramiello, a shopper.
"He's a pervert," said shopper Madison James.
The woman did not know she was a victim until she was contacted by authorities.
"You look at that and you think how does she not realize he's there but she doesn't," said Sgt. Pooley.
The woman was looking at bathing suits while Kennamer passed by her again and again to take pictures with his phone.
"Unfortunately that kind of media is pretty accessible and everybody's got that on them," said Andrew Young, a shopper.
"The photographs are so easy to take. People don't even know you're filming them, but to do that to violate somebody it's against the law, and it's completely wrong," said Sgt. Pooley.
Sgt. Pooley said Kennamer was at this store to develop pictures.
"He has a girlfriend who was getting ready to leave on a trip, and he was developing pictures for her," said Sgt. Pooley. "He was waiting for pictures to develop, and that's when he started going around looking for some type of pleasure."
Kennamer was arrested for surreptitious videotaping.
Tempe police said the suspect has told them he's done this before, so Tempe police is asking anyone with information to call them at 480-350-8311
