Your Life A to Z - Oscars Recap
The women looked gorgeous on the red carpet at this year’s Academy Awards, but have you ever wondered how long it takes them to pick out their gown? Well, in the case of Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett, 10 minutes. That’s 10 minutes BEFORE she left for the Oscars. Yup! Blanchett says it came down to three dresses, “It was between Mr. Armani, Mr. Armani and Mr. Armani,” she says. I think you’ll agree the one she picked at the very last second was beautiful.
So, do any of the stars have annual Oscar traditions? Apparently they do. Sandra Bullock always carries a small sock from her son Louis. She says she puts all of her stuff in the sock so it stays neatly organized. Kate Hudson says she always goes to the after parties and then straight to In-N-Out Burger. Charlize Theron always brings her good luck charm, her mom.
Jared Leto won for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Dallas Buyers Club. What is he going to do next? Well, would you believe he’s touring the rest of the year? He’s the lead singer in a band called Thirty Seconds to Mars, and Leto’s plan is to focus on his music. As for the highlight of Leto’s night after winning an Oscar, seeing his mom dance with Madonna at her after party.
Speaking of Madonna’s Oscar party, her ex-husband Sean Penn was there with Charlize Theron. Penn and Theron are currently dating. What’s interesting is they were seen making out and all over each other at the party!
Ellen DeGeneres was the host of this year’s Academy Awards. Most people agree that her light-hearted approach and quick wit paid off.
There was Ellen’s Oscar selfie seen ‘round the world. The selfie was a shot of her with Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jared Leto, Kevin Spacey, Lupita Nyong’o, Channing Tatum and others.
Ellen’s goal was for it to be the most retweeted tweet of all time and she succeeded. So far the photo has been retweeted more than 3 million times! At first, Twitter was so overwhelmed it crashed.
But, now we learn that although the selfie came about organically (none of the stars were in on it ahead of time), Ellen had a contract with Samsung to use their device a few times throughout the show since they were a major sponsor.
What’s funny is although Ellen’s selfie was taken with a Samsung device, backstage Ellen seemed to return to Samsung’s chief rival: Apple and it’s iphone.
Plus, Ellen doesn’t actually own the selfie. Although it was taken with her device, legally it doesn’t matter who set-up the shot or whose camera it is. The owner of the image is the person who took the picture. So, in this case it’s Bradley Cooper. That means he owns the copyrights, which could be worth a lot of money.
One of my favorite moments was when Ellen had pizza delivered to hungry celebrities in the audience. If you didn’t know, it was a real pizza delivery guy who showed up from Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria in LA. He had no idea that as he followed Ellen he was about to be on one of world’s biggest stages. The stars started passing around the hot pizza, only to have Harrison Ford take a big bite and get pizza grease down the front of his tuxedo. He tried to clean up the mess, but wound up leaving the Dolby Theater early.
That’s a wrap!
