PHOENIX -- Police say a woman was abducted at gunpoint Saturday afternoon in west Phoenix.

About 1 p.m., officers responded to several calls about a possible abduction on 67th Avenue south of Camelback Road in the Maryvale area.

Witnesses told police the woman was walking north on a frontage road on the west side of 67th Avenue when a four-door Chevrolet Cavalier pulled up behind her. A man armed with a semi-automatic handgun reportedly got out of the car and forced her inside.

The woman screamed and fought and was able to get out of the car at one point but was eventually forced back inside, according to witnesses.

The car fled north on the frontage road and then headed west on Highland Avenue.

"They said that perhaps her legs were even hanging out the ... open door as they turned westbound on Highland," Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said.

The abduction was captured on a nearby surveillance camera.

The identities of the man and woman were unknown Saturday night.

"Was the man known to her? That's possible. Regardless, by all indications, she was forced into that vehicle against her will," Thompson said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s. He has brown hair and is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 160 pounds. He was wearing a black shirt with white lettering and dark jeans at the time of the abduction.

The woman is also believed to be Hispanic and in her 20s. She is about 140 pounds and has shoulder-length black hair. She was last seen wearing a black tank top, a denim skirt, black leggings and pink shoes.

The man's car is believed to a model in the 2000s with primed gray bumpers. It has a possible partial Arizona license plate of "BBB."
