PHOENIX -- A Valley woman is startled and heartbroken after burglars made off with her father's ashes.

Cheryl Newell says her mother was not even gone an hour Wednesday morning when her home was ransacked in the neighborhood of 12th Street and Missouri.

"You took something very dear to her," said Newell. The burglars smashed the back sliding glass door and took TVs, jewelry, and a laptop. They also took Newell's father's ashes. "He was in a box and it had the purple cloth over him and they took him. And we want him back," said Newell.

Newell's dad passed away not even two years ago after 47 years married to her mother. She says not having his ashes here is heartbreaking to the family.

"You know, he and Mom were supposed to be spread together and I don't want Mom to go alone. I want Dad here. Because that's what he wanted. He wanted to be with Mom," Newell said. If you have any information on this burglary, call the Phoenix Police Department.
