GILBERT, Ariz. -- A Gilbert father has been accused of abusing his children and threatening to cut them into pieces, according to police.

Joseph Viado was arrested after his children told police last week their father had threatened and abused them, according to a police report.

One 14-year-old boy alleged that Viado had used his elbows and knees to beat him, and at one point threw a butter knife out of anger, the report said. The boy showed police marks on his side for proof.

The boy’s brother also alleged abuse, telling police that Viado kneeled on his chest while hitting his face, according to the report. In a separate incident, the boy said, his father rammed a grilling utensil down his throat, making him throw up because the boy ate breakfast.

When authorities questioned Viado, the father said he used his fingers, not a utensil, and bruises on one child’s face came from removing glasses so they wouldn’t break. Viado was released and had a court date scheduled for Wednesday.

The children said Viadio has threatened them before, according to the report, saying he would grab knives and forks and threaten to cut them to pieces.
