PHOENIX -- As a cold front dropped into the state Wednesday, we started to see cooler temperatures compared to the past week or so.

The front will put an end to the record highs we’ve been seeing around metro Phoenix and should push high temperatures down into the 70s.

We are seeing some early signs that the first week of March may bring a chance for precipitation in Arizona, mainly the northern portions of the state. With most locations behind on rain and snow so far this year, that would be welcome.

Area forecast discussion from the National Weather Service in Phoenix:

"A cooling trend will continue through late this week as a low pressure system drops southeastward from the pacific northwest towards the four corners region. However, temperatures will remain above normal with dry weather prevailing. A slight warming trend will then return through the weekend as high pressure builds back across the eastern pacific."
