SAN LUIS, Ariz. -- Border authorities on Tuesday seized 33 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested the alleged smuggler.

Venacio Hau-Flores, a 35-year-old Mexican national, was arrested after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in San Luis selected the Mercury sedan he was reportedly driving for further inspection.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said a K-9 alerted officers to possible narcotics in the sedan and the officers found 35 packages of crystal meth in a compartment behind the rear seat.

Border authorities said the meth is worth about $506,000.

Officers turned Hau-Flores over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations, and seized the vehicle and drugs.
