Phoenix weather: Record temperatures forecast for PhoenixPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A strong ridge of high pressure is building to our west and will soon bring record temperatures to Arizona.
Look for mostly sunny skies today across the state and a Valley high of 78 degrees. That's 8 degrees above the average high of 70 for the Valley this time of year.
The unseasonably strong ridge of high pressure will slide east over the next few days, parking itself over Arizona and bringing rising temperatures. We're forecasting mid 80s for Thursday and Friday afternoon. The forecast high of 86 degrees on Friday would set a new record.
We're forecasting the warmest day to be Saturday with a record high of 89 degrees. Although temperatures will start to come down during the second half of your weekend, a forecast high of 85 degrees on Sunday would also set a new record.
Warm and dry weather is expected to continue into early next week. Overnight lows are expected to range from the mid 40s to the mid 50s over the next week.
