Where the jobs are in 2014Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Slow to crawl out of the recession, Arizona may not see enough jobs to make much of a dent in the unemployment rate this year.
So this week, 3 On Your Side is helping people jump start their job search.
Arizona's rebound from The Great Recession is not adequate, according to ASU Professor Lee McPheters, Director of the JPMorgran Chase Economic Outlook Center at the W. P. Carey School of Business.
McPheters said, "At this stage of the recovery we really ought to be growing about 5 percent
and we ought to be adding maybe twice as many jobs as we're seeing, maybe 90,000, 100,000 jobs."
Instead, McPheters anticipates Arizona will see only a 2 percent growth this year, meaning we’ll add 50,000 jobs.
Of those, companies specializing in finance and healthcare will most likely be hiring.
McPheters said, to land a job in either field, "The opportunities are really for the people who have experience, that have particular training, qualifications and skills."
Former head hunter, Shana Landolt said, "You want to connect with people you know inside the organization."
Landolt said the best approach to jump start your job search is, "You want to look at what makes you different, what makes you unique."
In the healthcare field, CVS, Banner Health and Phoenix Children’s Hospital all have job openings.
