PHOENIX – Police are investigating after a man's body was found near a Safeway store in Phoenix Monday morning.
An employee at the grocery store near Seventh Street and McDowell Road discovered the body down in a recessed loading dock area at about 7 a.m., according to Phoenix police.
Sgt. Trent Crump said the body had a substantial amount of trauma and it appears the victim may have been run over by delivery trucks using the dock area.
"Video tapes show what appears to be this particular individual going behind that store at about 8:00 last night," says Crump. "He may have bedded down. There's some indication he may have passed out also from drinking mouthwash he had stolen from inside the store."
Investigators are interviewing delivery drivers to try and determine exactly what occurred.
