EL MIRAGE, Ariz. -- A man was arrested Saturday after a woman was found dead in an El Mirage alley earlier this weekend.

Jesus Tober, 32, was booked on a charge of first-degree murder after the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman and determined her death was suspicious, according to police.

The El Mirage Police Department apprehended Tober on the 13800 block of North Luna Street, near the alley where the body of 24-year-old Patricia Cota was found.

Samuel Duenez said he found Cota's body while walking his cousins to school Friday. Police were alerted just before 8 a.m.

Neighbors recalled seeing Cota around the neighborhood often, and Duenez said he saw her Thursday night.

"I was just shocked and surprised because she was having fun the night before, laughing, and having a good time," he said. "Next thing you know, we find her dead in the alley."

Amanda Serna said she was walking with Duenez at the time.

"While I was walking with him, I saw someone laying down on the ground and then I went to tell my mom, and she said she was probably asleep so she told me and my brother to go to the front and go walk to the bus stop," she said.

The investigation is ongoing.
