PHOENIX -- An injured hiker was airlifted from Camelback Mountain on Saturday morning.

The man, who is in his 50s, was hiking the Echo Canyon Trail when he suffered an injury to his lower extremity, according to Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra.

Firefighters responded just after 9 a.m. and found him near the top of the mountain. They immediately began medical treatment.

Technical rescue crews used a helicopter to extricate the hiker from the mountain, and he was transported to a local hospital, Saavedra said.
